REMINDER/Media Advisory: CMHC Build Day for Ottawa's First Urban Habitat for Humanity Aboriginal Home


OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - July 11, 2013) - Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) will be helping an Aboriginal family realize their dream of homeownership by sponsoring a Habitat for Humanity Build Day on July 11, 2013.

The first Habitat for Humanity urban Aboriginal build in Ottawa, the house will be home to Ida Kakekagumick and her three grandchildren for whom she has legal custody.

On Build Day, Doug Stewart, Interim President for CMHC, and a team of CMHC staff volunteers will join Habitat for Humanity-National Capital Region (NCR) on site to participate in the construction.

Habitat for Humanity NCR works to mobilize volunteers and community partners in building affordable housing and promoting home ownership as a means to breaking the cycle of poverty.

CMHC is a Habitat for Humanity Canada Platinum Partner and the founding national partner of its Aboriginal Housing Program. Launched in 2007, the Program seeks to increase the number of Habitat homes for Aboriginal families from coast, to coast, to coast.
