Fit for the Berlin-Travelers of the Future: Marriott Hotel in Berlin at Potsdamer Platz Completes Extensive Renovation

General Manager Schneider Has a Total Investment of EUR 17 Million Taken in Hand / State of the Art All Over the Upscale Berlin Hotel

BERLIN--(Marketwired - Jul 12, 2013) - "We are ready, the hotel is fit for the future," reports Hansjoerg Schneider, General Manager of the Berlin Marriott Hotel, proud of the complete re-design of the house, now available in all rooms and the Executive Lounge. Opened in 2004, the Marriott hotel at Potsdamer Platz in Berlin has been successful for almost ten years in the growing hotel market in Berlin. In the past two years, there have been extensive renovations of lobby, spa and conference facilities, restaurant and bar. Now, the last phase is completed and this fine hotel in Berlin sparkles like new over all ten floors.

"The number of visitors in the city is still growing. The number of hotel rooms in Berlin now exceeds that of New York. Consequently, the competition is high," said Schneider. "Each hotel must therefore work hard on themselves and offer and adapt to new needs." The Berlin Marriott Hotel has done this on all floors and with high intensity. Amongst others, the results include 379 newly designed rooms and a very modernly equipped Executive Lounge.

"With such an extensive overhaul the point is not to just upholster the furniture, but to expand your profile in a very tight market to incorporate trends and future customer needs in structural modifications, designs and equipment," says Schneider. Thus, the new Executive Lounge has now a significantly expanded area with special areas for relaxation or work. Guests can use them as exclusive living room or study. The lounge has become versatile. Not only can scenic and lighting settings be adjusted via the LED, but also can acoustic sound reinforcement be utilized. Guests may use high-tech equipment, free internet access and computers. Pantry and breakfast also have the latest technology. A very personal character is created not only by the new furniture, but also by additional services on site. For example, the exclusively prepared meals and snacks, available around the clock, are a crucial plus for numerous international business travelers.

"With the overhaul we have strengthened our appeal particularly for the high proportion of business and leisure travelers," says Schneider. The hotel, which is considered the flagship of Marriott International in Germany, focuses on its key markets, which are the domestic market (50% of guest share), United States (30%), the UK (10%) and neighboring European countries. "This corresponds to the Berlin average. However, the proportion of US guests is through the parent company much higher than in many other hotels in Berlin. The greatest demand in the business sector comes from the pharmaceutical industry, consulting and entertainment," Schneider said. The hotel has been adapted to the needs of these customer segments: in addition to meeting rooms and the Executive Lounge with generously sized rooms with desk, Internet access in public areas, flat screen TVs, LED 42-inch TV and a fitness offer are available.

During the week business travelers and conference organizers are addressed, during the weekend leisure guests. The house provides a large selection of outlets and numerous opportunities for enjoyment and relaxation for all target groups. Schneider: "We offer more than accommodation, restaurant and service. We provide different worlds of experience that are at our guests' disposal -- from the cigar lounge and the theme restaurant Midtown Grill, our live radio station in the spectacular lobby up to our own fashion bar." Renovated in 2010, the steakhouse with show kitchen has enjoyed steady growth in popularity and usage since its redesign. Likewise, the CATWALK Bar, which is designed to be all about fashion and was opened in 2011, has become a central scene meeting place at Potsdamer Platz.

"Now the chic, modern and functional facelift to the room has been added, which is just fun for guests. In all areas we show openness and a relaxed way of life, and the interior of the house reflects our commitment to service. That's what guests like about Berlin as well as the Marriott," says Hansjoerg Schneider. In the new rooms guests can relax in a quiet and stylish atmosphere, and from here you can enjoy all the comforts of the five-star hotel.
