New Book, 'Change Intelligence,' Shows Leaders How to Effectively Manage Organizational Change

CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwired - Jul 17, 2013) - A new, research-based guide to managing organizational change, "Change Intelligence: Use the Power of CQ to Lead Change that Sticks" (www.changecatalysts.com), by Barbara Trautlein, walks readers through evaluating their leadership style and offers practical ways to implement successful and sustainable change.

"The modern workplace is in a near constant state of change -- reorganizations, mergers, downsizing, innovating processes and products -- but the reality is, over 70% of organizational change fails," says Trautlein, who has helped leaders and organizations create change that sticks for more than 25 years.

"The CQ System for Developing Change Intelligent Leaders and Organizations is based on years of global research on managing change, advanced studies of the psychology and neuroscience of change, and actual client examples from my change leadership consulting practice."

Understanding your own style is the first step toward developing change intelligence, Trautlein writes. Only then will you know which strengths to leverage and which blind spots to be aware of and remediate.

Every leader will tend to lead with some combination of Heart (connecting with people emotionally), Head (connecting with them cognitively) and Hands (connecting behaviorally). To successfully lead change, they need a balance of all three, she writes.

"You have to engage the brain, inspire the heart and motivate the hands to get people moving in positive new directions to create successful and sustainable change," Trautlein says.

In "Change Intelligence," the author provides a multitude of real-life case studies in industries ranging from steel mills to sales teams, refineries to retail, and healthcare to high tech, and offers practical coaching for change leaders at the executive, project manager, and front-line supervisor levels.

Dick Teets, president and COO for steel operations at Steel Dynamics, Inc., says the CQ approach has been invaluable for his organization.

"Trautlein provides a clear roadmap for developing change leadership organization-wide using proven case studies on equipping change leaders and building bench strength from the executive suite to the shop floor,'' Teets writes.
