A New Sound for CKNW-The Shift With Mike Eckford

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - Aug. 21, 2013) - CKNW NEWS TALK 980 is excited to launch a new talk radio program, The Shift With Mike Eckford. The Shift will air weeknights from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The way people experience news and share opinion has changed dramatically in recent years. The Shift will respond to that. The show's content will be crowd sourced right from the opening moments, and the show will use social network technology to guide the content every night.

"The plan at the beginning is to not have a plan!" shares Eckford. He adds, "The Shift will honour what it is that makes CKNW a leader; outlining the big issues of the day and giving people a voice. Other than that, I believe in evolution. The listeners and the content will show me the way."

Eckford's career has seen him engage in over 15,000 interviews, log over 5,000 hours in front of TV cameras and has become a fixture in the community as an event host natural in front of TV cameras and radio microphones. Michael's interview subjects have ranged from current affairs, politics, entertainment and sports. Each is approached with curiosity, thorough research and a drive to help people understand the world we all live in. For the last year Mike co-hosted the morning show on Classic Rock 101. Now having cut his teeth co-hosting, Mike Eckford takes the next step as host of The Shift.

"We are very excited to try this new way of doing talk radio with The Shift," said Ian Koenigsfest, CKNW Program Director. "We couldn't think of a better storyteller to launch and host the program with than Mike, and we are thrilled to have him officially join the CKNW team."

The Shift with Mike Eckford premiers Monday, September 2nd at 7p.m. PST.
