The 8th Annual Hispana Leadership Summit to Feature a "Party in Pink(TM)" Zumbathon(R) Charity Event Hosted by Susan G. Komen and Zumba for Latina Guests

Zumba Fitness Party to Raise Funds for Breast Cancer Prevention on the Agenda for the Event Hosted by Vanidades and PODER Hispanic Magazines

MIAMI, FL--(Marketwired - Sep 4, 2013) -  Vanidades and PODER Hispanic magazines today unveiled plans for a fun-filled "Party in Pink™" Zumba initiative to be presented by Susan G. Komen and Zumba Fitness -- the international-inspired dance-fitness phenomenon that counts 14 million fans in more than 185 countries -- during the 8th Annual Hispana Leadership Summit (HLS). The three-day Latina empowerment conference takes place at the Disney Grand Floridian Resort in Orlando, Fla., Sept. 12-14.

This year, returning sponsor Susan G. Komen offers attendees the opportunity to have fun, get in shape and support the fight against breast cancer all at the same time with a Zumbathon® charity event (a Zumba class for charity). The Party in Pink™ Zumbathon® event will be held at HLS 2013 on Friday, Sept. 13, from 9:00am to 10:30am at Disney's Contemporary Resort, Ballroom of the Americas B.

Registered guests will enjoy a light breakfast, followed by the ultimate dance-fitness party featuring rhythms from around the world, including samba, hip-hop, salsa, Bollywood, African beats and more. Attendees are encouraged to wear their pink workout gear to "party, prevent and prevail" with their friends while helping to raise funds for the Zumba Global Research Grant for Breast Cancer Prevention -- the first ever medical research grant named for the Zumba program toward preventative research. The study will evaluate the effects the lignan compound found in flaxseed has on pre-menopausal women and the potential for its usage as a safe, low-cost, and highly accessible solution to help prevent breast cancer on a global scale.

In conjunction with Zumba's mission of encouraging a healthy and active lifestyle, Susan G. Komen and Zumba Fitness invite supporters, survivors, and party people worldwide to participate in their local Party in Pink Zumbathon® charity event. For a three-month period (Aug. 1-Oct. 31) for the next three years, Zumba Fitness aims to raise $3 million to help fund this cutting-edge research to prevent breast cancer before it starts.

"Regular exercise is associated with reduced breast cancer risk, so we've been delighted to benefit from Zumba Fitness' popular and fun 'Party in Pink™' campaign," said Chandini Portteus, chief mission officer for Susan G. Komen. "Now, through the Zumba Global Research Grant for Breast Cancer Prevention, Zumba Fitness is taking its commitment to new heights by funding research that could bring us closer to scientifically sound breast cancer risk-reduction strategies."

All attendees will get a fun and trendy gift. Learn more about the partnership at www.komen.org/Zumba

The 8th Annual Hispana Leadership Summit is hosted by PODER Hispanic and Vanidades magazines, together with Strayer University, and presented by AARP, Disney Park & Resorts and Susan G. Komen. The event is supported by LATISM, and Marketwired as the official newswire sponsor.

"It's an honor to co-host the Hispana Leadership Summit and share insights with Latina professionals about leadership at home, in the community, and at work," said Irene Zoppi-Rodríguez, Ph.D., full-time education and business faculty member at Strayer University's Anne Arundel campus in Maryland. "A common misconception is that there is only one effective way to lead. Every Latina, however, has a unique set of skills, talents and experiences that form a net of advantages to inform her own leadership style. The key is to identify that style and learn how to apply it as needed."

Dr. Zoppi-Rodríguez will participate in a workshop titled "Courageous Leadership: Shared Qualities of Great Leaders" during the three-day event.
