MEDIA ALERT: Tickets Still Available for Weekend Steam Rail Trips to Parrish & Wilton


CHATTANOOGA, TN--(Marketwired - Sep 11, 2013) - The Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum is bringing steam engine excitement back to Birmingham. On September 14 & September 15, TVRM will be operating passenger rail excursions to Parrish and Wilton. The Steel City Rail Adventure will feature authentically refurbished passenger railcars from the bygone era of railroading, led by steam locomotive.

"These excursions operate with the cooperation of Norfolk Southern, and we are very proud of the great history of railroading and how this partnership, called the21st Century Steam, helps us fulfill our mission to educate the public about that history," said Steve Freer, spokesperson for TVRM.

The excursions on September 14 & 15 are steam-locomotive-led trips over Norfolk Southern's Alabama Division main lines radiating out of Birmingham. Ex-Southern Railway 2-8-0 #630 will be the featured locomotive. The boarding location for all trips will be the old Southern Railway Terminal Station property located at 2680 2nd Avenue North in Birmingham. The trains offer full service amenities and the cars are all air conditioned with large windows. At mid-train a commissary car will be selling snacks, soft drinks, and light food items. A gift shop is also available for those wishing to purchase souvenir items. Passengers will remain on board the train until returning to Birmingham, including the turn around at each destination. All times shown for Alabama trips are within the Central Time Zone. The excursions are as follows:

September 14 & 15 (morning): Birmingham, AL to Parrish, AL -Approximate 6 hour, 82-mile round trip rail excursion departs at 8:00 am and returns around 2:00 pm. This trip follows the Norfolk Southern line toward Sheffield.

September 14 & 15 (afternoon): Birmingham, AL to Wilton, AL -Approximate 6-1/2 hour round trip, 98-mile round trip rail excursion departs at 2:00 pm and returns around 8:30 pm. This trip goes south on the line toward Mobile.

Tickets are $45 for adults and $35 for children age 3-12. Children under age 3 not occupying a seat do not require a ticket. Tickets for all excursions can be purchased online at tvrail.com or by calling 423/894-8028.
