SAINT-FORTUNAT, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - Sept. 16, 2013) - Acting on behalf of the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, the Honourable Christian Paradis, Minister of International Development and Minister for La Francophonie and Member of Parliament for Mégantic-L'Érable, today announced that the Municipality of Saint-Fortunat has been granted financial assistance to modernize its community centre.

"By funding the Municipality of Saint-Fortunat's project, our Government is fulfilling its commitment to help improve the quality of life in our communities," said Minister Paradis.

Saint-Fortunat will use the funding from the Government of Canada to renovate its community centre. The planned work essentially involves building new foundations, redoing the insulation and painting, renovating the doors and stairs, and upgrading the electricity and mechanical systems. This project aims to make the community centre more attractive to users as well as increase activities available to the community.

This financial assistance, granted in the form of a $119,500 non-repayable contribution, has been awarded through the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).

The CIIF has a nationwide budget of $150 million over two years, including $31.2 million to be invested in Quebec, where the Agency is responsible for its administration. The Fund aims to support the rehabilitation and improvement, including expansion, of existing community infrastructure.
