Brookline Lodging Uses Summer Season to Give Back to the Community

BROOKLINE, MA--(Marketwired - Sep 17, 2013) - While donating money, clothes and food is a wonderful gesture, sometimes the best thing one can give is time. The staff at the Courtyard Boston Brookline believes strongly in giving back to the local community, and this summer they spent their time working with two organizations near this BC hotel.

On July 17^th, this hotel near Longwood Medical Center hosted a group of students from Brookline's Steps to Success Program. The General Manager took 20 high school students on a tour around the entire property to give them a better understanding of the daily operations and work that go into running the hotel.

Steps to Success is a comprehensive school success and college readiness program, whose mission is to work to close the achievement gap, helping students make the goal of post-secondary an achievable reality. Steps to Success provides academic support and enrichment, a unique advising system, college awareness and readiness, work connections for youth through paid summer internships, as well as family education and support services. The Courtyard Boston Brookline is one of several local companies to offer support. This was the first time Courtyard Boston Brookline worked with the program, and they are looking forward to building the relationship in the coming years.

After hosting Steps to Success, the staff at this hotel near BU wanted to find another way to connect with the local community. On August 5^th, eight staff members volunteered their time and skills at the Boston Ronald McDonald House, where they prepared meals for 23 families. This was the first time the hotel worked with the organization, Marc Kruger, Director of Sales, says, and "It was an amazing feeling to see those kids and make them dinner."

The Boston Ronald McDonald House was established in 1979 as a "home-away-from-home" for kids with cancer and their families. It "provides its guests with low-cost and convenient accommodations in a safe and comfortable home-like setting" and "support among staff, volunteers, and other families facing the life-changing realities of childhood cancer and other life-threatening hematological illnesses."
