Wavefront and TRTech Offer Prairie Provinces' Wireless Companies a Competitive Edge

The Government of Canada provides financial assistance to bolster Wavefront's ability to support wireless SMEs

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwired - Sept. 18, 2013) - Wavefront, in partnership with TRTech, has secured funding to make the Wavefront-TRTech Accelerated Program available to wireless SMEs in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta.

Supported by the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC-IRAP), the program offers wireless technology companies access to business strategy consultation, and state-of-the-art testing tools that assist in overcoming project-based hurdles that are common for many startups.

Wavefront, Canada's Centre of Excellence for Wireless Commercialization and Research, and TRTech's expansive network of wireless industry experts and thought-leaders, are matched to the SMEs enrolled in the program based on the nature of the company's need.

In addition to expertise and experience sharing, support can also include key market connections and access, and a suite of innovation services critical to gaining early market share in a fast moving industry, including: business strategy sessions; heuristic evaluations; beta and pilot program management; and testing resources. This unique, tailor-made approach offers SMEs unprecedented value and knowledge to accelerate market entry and commercialization.

On average, companies that have participated in Wavefront programs over the past four years have increased their revenues by almost 20%, and accelerated their time-to-market by four to six months.

Xomo Digital received specialized usability consulting, testing and design services, enabling them to make improvements to their Official Mobile Spectator Guide for the Vancouver 2010 Olympics. The work had an immediate impact. Xomo achieved a 4.5 (out of 5) user rating in app stores, more than 1.2 million downloads, and won the "Best Mobile Application" trophy at the Canadian New Media Awards. High profile contracts have been signed with a variety of big name clients including the London 2012 Olympics, the Calgary Stampede, South By SouthWest (SXSW), and the Sundance Film Festival.

Digital Retail Apps is another company that has strongly benefitted from the Wavefront program. Knowledge acquired via the program has enabled the company to pursue partnerships with multiple Fortune 500 companies.

"For many wireless technology entrepreneurs, it is not always wide-spread, mass funding needs that serve as a barrier to market entry, but rather, support and resources put towards overcoming specific growth challenges," says Robert Tasker, CEO of TRTech. "The Wavefront-TRTech Accelerated Program addresses those project-based needs directly to create meaningful and tangible results."

"It has been remarkable to watch the progress of companies across Canada that have been granted support through this program and the support provided by NRC-IRAP since 2009," adds James Maynard, CEO and President of Wavefront. "Our ability to make funding accessible to the Prairie Provinces this year will ensure that Wavefront programs and services reach promising companies spanning the entire country."
