The Browning School Celebrates 125th Year Anniversary

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - Sep 19, 2013) - The Browning School, www.browning.edu, which was founded as a college preparatory school for boys in 1888, celebrates its 125th year anniversary with a "block party" birthday celebration for the adult members of the school community on Saturday, October 5, 2013, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The Browning School was founded by Standard Oil founder John D. Rockefeller when he retained John A. Browning to form a school for his son, John D. Rockefeller, Jr. and nephew, Percy A. Rockefeller. A traditional curriculum helps support boys intellectually, physically, and emotionally from Pre-Primary through Form VI.

"Our 125th year anniversary extends a toast to Browning's past, present and future," said Stephen M. Clement, III, Headmaster of The Browning School. "Many of the themes present at the creation of The Browning School have endured the test of time: a classical curriculum, a student body representing many different traditions, intellectual rigor, and an emphasis on the arts."

James S. Chanos, president of the board of trustees of The Browning School and founder and managing partner of Kynikos Associates, who has three sons who are graduates of the School says, "Browning actively promotes a diverse learning environment which fosters intellectual, social and emotional growth. It will be fascinating to see how the School evolves over the next 125 years."

"Our parents and alumni are outstanding ambassadors for our School and champion its academic excellence and collegial and caring environment," said Martin T. Hasse, Director of Institutional Advancement at The Browning School. "It is an honor to give back with a party that celebrates the important role they play in our community."

Some notable alumni of The Browning School include John D. Rockefeller,Jr., Christian A. Herter, Sr., R. Sargent Shriver, Howard Dean, Claiborne de Borda Pell, Arthur Ochs Sulzburger, Jeffrey Moss and Jamie Dimon.

In concert with the festivities, The Browning School published a 152-page book titled, "The Browning School: Celebrating 125 Years" which offers a diverse, extended collection of photographs and archival information.
