Encana and the World Professional Chuckwagon Association (WCPA) recently tabulated the summer's Race Against Hunger donations and were pleased to present a cheque for more than $163,000 to Foodbanks in Alberta and B.C.

"Encana's employees and community members have made a huge difference to Food Banks in Calgary and rural BC and Alberta," says Darci-Jane McAulay, Group Lead, Community Relations at Encana. "Partnering with the World Professional Chuckwagon Association we have concentrated on raising money, food and awareness for the Food Banks. We are thrilled with this year's results as it is equivalent to providing 23 families with food for an entire year. We thank the Calgary Food Bank in all that they do to fight hunger in our city and beyond."

Throughout this year's race season, the Race Against Hunger program was brought to Ponoka, Strathmore, Dawson Creek, Grande Prairie and Rocky Mountain House where in each location one driver would bring awareness and sponsorship dollars to the local food banks. The local CO-OP or Federated CO-OP stores provided donation opportunities and community groups helped raise food and funds for the local food banks in those centres.

DD Coutts, Manager of Communications & Development at the Calgary Food Bank explains that "we are so grateful for the generosity from the community, the WPCA and Encana in this year's Race Against Hunger campaign. Every dollar will ensure that the Calgary Food Bank can continue to support the emergency needs of Calgarians."
