TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Sept. 30, 2013) - On Sunday, September 29, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre admitted Ms. Fardowsa Abdi (17), who was transferred to the hospital from Kenya following the horrific terrorist attack on the Westgate shopping mall in Nairobi.

Ms. Abdi was assessed in the trauma room initially and sent for surgery. She underwent a procedure to help further care for the injuries she suffered in the attack. Sunnybrook's clinical teams are continuing to assess her ongoing needs for care.

Ms. Abdi is fortunate to have the strong support of her family and community in the Greater Toronto Area, who will help with her recovery. The family would like to thank all of those who have assisted in the transfer and care of Fardowsa.

Ms. Abdi and her family would like to request privacy over the next few days to allow them time to focus on the next steps in her care.
