Minister of State Rickford Affirms Government's Support for Clean Technologies to Promote Jobs and Growth


OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Oct. 2, 2013) - The Honourable Greg Rickford, Minister of State (Science and Technology), today reaffirmed the government's support for clean technologies as a means of fostering both environmental sustainability and economic prosperity. In his address to delegates at a conference organized by the Economic Club of Canada, Minister of State Rickford pointed to the government's significant investments in green technology, energy efficiency and the production of clean fuels.

"Our government understands that there is a need to work together across all sectors to nurture the talent and new ideas that will help our businesses innovate, secure new markets and create well-paying jobs," said Minister of State Rickford. "That's why we are supporting strategic research and development in innovative clean-energy technologies such as renewables, bioenergy and the electrification of transportation. Innovative companies in Canada's clean technology sector continue to deliver environmental and economical benefits for our communities."

Economic Action Plan 2013 is providing $325 million over eight years to Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC) to continue supporting the development and demonstration of new clean technologies that promote sustainable development.
