BCG's Human Capital Consulting Is Rated Best in the Industry

Kennedy Information Report Finds That The Boston Consulting Group Has the Industry's Deepest Capabilities in Human Capital Strategy, Earning It the Highest Score in Each of Six Service Competencies

BOSTON, MA--(Marketwired - Oct 2, 2013) - The Boston Consulting Group (BCG) is the best overall provider of human capital strategy consulting, according to a new report by Kennedy Information, the industry's leading research and publishing firm.

In the report, Kennedy found that BCG has the deepest capabilities of all firms in this domain, which combines expertise in strategy, human resources (HR), operations management (OM), and information technology (IT) consulting. It rated BCG "very strong" or "strong" in all six key capabilities, giving it higher marks for each than any other firm surveyed. The six capabilities are: business strategy alignment, workforce strategy, workforce planning and effectiveness, employee engagement, talent management strategy review, and change management.

Calling BCG's offering a "vanguard practice," the report says that the firm's human capital consulting "combines scientific rigor with a passion for the role that people play in creating value. The firm has an extensive toolkit for consulting across the value chain, supported by research and thought leadership articulating methodologies and philosophies."

The report continues: "BCG's reputation for innovation is evident in its Workonomics™ tool, the first of its kind to measure the economic impact of human capital. BCG has conducted over 1,000 human capital strategy engagements since 2008, and many clients have published articles in the trade and business press about successful human capital turnarounds engineered by BCG."

Rainer Strack, a senior partner in the firm's Düsseldorf office who is the global coleader for the human resources topic of the People and Organization practice and a coauthor of the Creating People Advantage report series, noted that BCG's approach is rooted in a deep tradition of thought leadership and the firm's strategy heritage. "Our unique ability to link HR issues with the strategic agenda of the executive suite is a critical part of our differentiation," he said.

Other specific findings of the Kennedy report:

  • On Client Value Creation. "Clients also praised BCG's passion for people as a source of value creation rather than as a component of the corporate value chain. BCG's knowledge of marketplace and talent management trends led one client to call the firm the most 'clued in' human capital consultant it had ever engaged."

  • On Tools and Methodologies. In addition to its Workonomics tool, "BCG has developed tools and thought leadership that help clients measure employee engagement (Engaging for Results), develop employer brand (Total Offer) and talent management strategies (Talent Management Framework), and design people strategies that align with corporate strategy (Strategic Workforce Planning)."

  • On Thought Leadership. BCG's research includes "global studies published jointly with the World Federation of People Management Associations and the World Economic Forum. Its Creating People Advantage report is the largest annual study of human capital trends and HR practices in the market."
