LANSING, MI--(Marketwired - Oct 3, 2013) - It's official: the governor and legislature have designated this Saturday as Buy Nearby Get Caught Blue-Handed Day throughout Michigan.

The governor's proclamation reads in part: "Whereas, retailing is responsible for 850,000 jobs in Michigan and if shoppers commit to buying nearby in Michigan, we can create more local jobs through increased local purchases... I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim Saturday, October 5, as Buy Nearby Get Caught-Blue Handed Day in Michigan and encourage all residents to buy nearby on this day and every day."

Both the House and Senate resolutions (HR 229 and SR 89) read in part: "Buy Nearby will demonstrate that buying nearby can be fun and rewarding to local communities and consumers."

Buy Nearby is the ongoing, year-round campaign launched by the Michigan Retailers Association to benefit retail businesses, shoppers and local communities across Michigan. Saturday, Oct. 5, is being celebrated as a day to shop nearby with friends and family and have fun "getting caught" supporting retail businesses and their communities in Michigan.
