J.P. Morgan Is No. 1 in U.S. Equity Research, Institutional Investor Survey Finds

Bank of America Merrill Lynch Logs Huge Gains in Magazine's 42nd Annual Ranking

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - Oct 8, 2013) - For a fourth year in a row, J.P. Morgan leads the All-America Research Team, Institutional Investor's annual ranking of the nation's best sell-side analysts as determined by the world's leading money managers.

Complete survey results can be found on Institutional Investor's website.

J.P. Morgan captures 47 positions this year, four more than in 2012, and its analysts top 19 of the survey's 65 sectors. That's more than twice the number of first-place finishes captured by any other sell-side institution.

Bank of America Merrill Lynch, in second place overall, also lays claim to an enviable title this year. Its team-position total increases more than any other firm's: by seven, to 41. That's nearly double the net gain enjoyed by J.P. Morgan, which ranks second when firms are measured by this metric.

Morgan Stanley wins the same number of positions as last year -- 33 -- but rises one notch to No. 3. That's because Barclays tumbles from second to fourth after losing eight spots, leaving it with 31. Deutsche Bank Securities' total also falls, from 32 to 28; nonetheless, it repeats in fifth place.

Citi is the biggest upward, jumping from No. 8 to No. 6 after increasing its team total by three, to 26.

The All-America Research Team Hall of Fame, which honors analysts who have finished in first place at least ten times in their respective sectors, welcomes two new members this year: Mark Schoenebaum, who covers biotechnology stocks and pharmaceuticals for ISI Group, and J.P. Morgan's Michael Weinstein, who reports on companies in the Medical Supplies & Devices sector.

The 2013 All-America Research Team reflects the opinions of more than 3,300 individuals from nearly 990 buy-side firms that collectively manage an estimated $10.5 trillion in U.S. equity assets.
