King & Spalding Recruits Former BNY Mellon Official Matthew J. Bromberg

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - Oct 15, 2013) - King & Spalding has recruited Matthew J. Bromberg, former senior managing counsel and managing director in the Global Fund Services Group of The Bank of New York Mellon, as partner in its financial institutions and capital transactions and real estate practices in New York.

"We are delighted to welcome Matt to our New York office and the firm," said Robert F. Perry, managing partner of King & Spalding's New York office. "He is a well-seasoned lawyer with extensive experience in investment management law. His successful record at a number of key financial institutions will be a significant benefit to our clients and extends our scope of services in the financial services arena."

Bromberg has more than 18 years of experience advising clients on a range of matters arising under federal securities, commodities and banking laws, as well as practical experience at some of the most well-known financial services companies. Before BNY Mellon, Bromberg worked at Merrill Lynch Investment Managers, Nomura Securities and Deutsche Bank.

"Matt is a strong addition to our financial team and will help expand our investment fund and securities capabilities. We are fortunate to have him join us," said Richard T. Marooney, co-leader of King & Spalding's financial institutions practice. "Matt's expertise in the area of fund sponsors, coupled with the strength of our existing team, allows us to offer fund-sponsor clients 'one-stop' shopping for their capital-raising work, while growing our work in '40 Act funds, exchange-traded funds, business development companies and publicly traded mortgage real estate investment trusts."

Bromberg's primary expertise is in representing registered investment companies -- including exchange traded investment companies (ETFs) and business development companies (BDCs), as well as investment advisers, broker-dealers, transfer agents and other institutions -- in general business, transactional, regulatory, compliance and enforcement matters.

Bromberg received a J.D. degree from Brooklyn Law School and earned an undergraduate degree from the State University of New York, Albany.

Bromberg said, "I felt the time was right to move into private practice. I am particularly enthusiastic about the opportunity to start and grow my practice at King & Spalding, whose regulatory and compliance expertise, as well as its culture, made it the right choice for me."

Bromberg joins James E. Berger, Henry G. Burnett, Michael P. Dougherty, Tony V. Pezzano and Wendy W.H. Waszmer as the sixth partner King & Spalding has recruited to its New York office in the past 17 months. The 110-lawyer New York office opened in 1990 and has an outstanding reputation for its capital transactions and real estate, corporate, finance, intellectual property and litigation practices.
