Glympse Functionality Now Available From Within Verizon Messages

Verizon's Award Winning App Incorporates Glympse Technology; Enables Location Sharing Directly From Texts

SEATTLE, WA--(Marketwired - Oct 25, 2013) - Glympse™, the groundbreaking time-based location sharing service, will now be available from within the latest Verizon Messages application. Publicly available in the coming weeks, Verizon will launch the first deep integration of Glympse location technology into text messaging, providing users with a simple, easy way to share their real time location with friends.

By incorporating Glympse directly within the Verizon Messages app, Verizon will enable their users to share their location directly from a current text conversation, without having to open another app or disrupt the dialogue. As more and more discussions are being held via texting, consumers are looking for functionality beyond photos and emoticons. With this integration, Glympse and Verizon are able to provide consumers with a rich and interactive experience that is fun and useful in everyday situations.

"In the past few years, we've seen location fads come and go, but no one put real-time location sharing truly at your fingertips like the new Verizon Messages with Glympse," said Bryan Trussel, co-founder and CEO of Glympse. "We are shifting the paradigm for location, helping to create a new wave of messaging that does so much more than just static text. Now, anyone can send a visually rich, engaging text message that definitively solves the question, 'where are you?'"

To access Glympse from within the Verizon Messages app, users simply need to tap the "Glympse" icon to share their location for fifteen minutes. People in the text conversation will automatically receive a dynamic map directly in the conversation, which updates in real-time with the other's location -- no need to open a browser or access another app. This applies to one-on-one conversations or conversations with a larger group, and, as more people in the text group share their location, they will automatically be added to the map. Users can add more time to their Glympse, or expire their location sharing at any point.

There are a multitude of ways to use Glympse within a text message, including:

  • Individual to Individual: Provide current location before leaving work or while traveling to meet the other person.
  • One person to many: Share whereabouts during an outdoor activity, like hike, run or bike ride, or on a road trip.
  • Group location sharing: Connect with others before an event, like a concert or festival, and broadcast current whereabouts on one map.
  • Family location sharing: Let the family share their location with each other on a simple interactive map.
  • Request a Glympse: Ask for another's current location while in a conversation.

The new Verizon Messages application will be available for iOS and Android in the coming weeks. For more information on how to download the standalone Glympse application, visit http://glympse.com.
