TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Nov. 7, 2013) - Long-established regiments of the Army Reserve will be holding ceremonies and parades throughout the city and in Mississauga on Sunday, November 10 to recognize the nation's fallen and their own. Because most members of these units have careers that prevent them from participating in services on Monday, November 11, their own ceremonies always occur on the Sunday before the 11th. All of these regiments have Battle Honours reaching back to the First World War or earlier. Many will have Korea veterans with them at the ceremony; the 48^th Highlanders of Canada and the Queen's Own Rifles of Canada may have a handful of Second World War veterans; and all regiments now have young veterans of Afghanistan.

Note: On Monday the 11th, 7th Toronto Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery, will be firing a salute of 21 rounds at Queen's Park immediately north of the Legislative Building in conjunction with the service on the front lawn. Firing two modern howitzers, and two of World War II vintage, the regiment will fire one round at 11:00 and begin the salute at exactly 11:02 a.m. There is a one-minute pause between rounds (which are, of course, blank). Citizens are encouraged to inspect the guns and meet the gunners once the firing is finished.

Here are the largest and most colourful parades on Sunday the 10th:

Queen's Park Circle The 48^th Highlanders of Canada, led by their Pipes & Drums, dressed in their scarlet ceremonial uniforms and kilts, and including young Cadets and their Old Comrades Association, will assemble behind the Legislative Building and march north on the east side of Queen's Park Circle to the regimental monument at the extreme north end of Queen's Park for a service and wreath-laying to begin at 10:45 (oriented south). Upon completion at approx 11:15 they will march down Queen's Park Circle and University Ave (southbound lanes) to Queen St, and east on Queen to their regimental home in Moss Park Armoury (at Jarvis).

Bloor St E The Queen's Own Rifles of Canada, led by their military band and including their Pioneers and Skirmishers in historic dress, as well as Army Cadets, will depart Moss Park Armoury at 10:05, march north on Church to Bloor, where they will be joined by the veterans of the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion Association. Continuing east, they will halt at 10:40 on Bloor St facing south in front of the memorial at St Paul's Anglican Church. A brief service ― "Last Post" at 10:50, and then wreath-laying ― will be conducted before the Regiment enters the church. Following the service, the regiment will return to Moss Park Armoury by marching east on Bloor to Jarvis, south on Jarvis to Shuter, and then in the armoury's back gate.

King St E The Royal Regiment of Canada, dressed in their scarlet ceremonial uniforms, with swords and bearskins, will form up in St James Park and march into St James Cathedral at 10:50. Following the service inside, they will, at approx 12:20, emerge and form up in front of the monument on the cathedral's west lawn for wreath-laying. They will then, led by their band, march up Church to Adelaide and circle the block clockwise to march past a saluting dais placed in front of the cathedral. They will continue on King to Church, turn north on Church, east on Adelaide to George, and north on George to board buses to return to Fort York Armoury.

King St E The Governor General's Horse Guards, led by their band and ceremonial lancers on horseback, will depart Moss Park Armoury at 13:30, march south on Jarvis and west on King to St James Cathedral. The regiment will enter the cathedral for a Service of Remembrance, emerging to reform on King St. They will pass a saluting dais in front of the cathedral and then swing around the block to return to Moss Park Armoury.

Mississauga City Hall The Toronto Scottish Regiment, led by their Pipes & Drums, dressed in ceremonial kilts, and accompanied by Cadets and the veteran Association, will step off from Mississauga Fire HQ (39 Fairview Rd W) at 10:30. They will march west along Fairview to Confederation Parkway, north to City Centre Drive, and then turn east into Celebration Square. Here the unit will combine a solemn Drum Head Service with a Remembrance service. Following dismissal, the regiment will move to the steps of City Hall for group photographs.
