The Government of Brunei Darussalam and CAE Brunei MPTC to establish an ASEAN Center of Excellence in Brunei for Emergency Management and Crisis Management

BRUNEI DARUSSALAM, BRUNEI--(Marketwired - Dec. 3, 2013) - Today at the Brunei International Defence Exhibition and Conference (BRIDEX), the Government of Brunei, represented by the Ministry of Home Affairs, and CAE, jointly announced that the CAE Brunei Multi-Purpose Training Centre (MPTC) Sdn Bhd will establish a comprehensive Emergency Management and Crisis Management Centre of Excellence that will support Brunei and ASEAN disaster preparedness.

The CAE Brunei MPTC's Emergency Management and Crisis Management Centre of Excellence will support the Brunei Ministry of Home Affairs and Brunei National Disaster Management Centre (NDMC) in training and preparing for various forms of local and regional emergencies and disasters.

"Through our partnership and collaboration with the CAE Brunei Multi-Purpose Training Centre, we will invest in the professional development and training of our people to enhance our overall emergency and crisis management capabilities."

The CAE Brunei MPTC will develop a comprehensive emergency and crisis management capability and training program. The CAE Brunei MPTC will be able to develop virtual threat scenarios for analysis and provide virtual training for complex emergency and crisis response exercises.

"A simulation-based synthetic environment is ideal for planning, preparing and training for any kind of event, particularly emergencies that require significant coordination and response from multiple government and civilian agencies," said Kevin Speed, Director of the CAE Brunei MPTC.

The CAE Brunei MPTC Facility is under construction in Rimba and is expected to be complete in Spring 2014. The CAE Brunei MPTC will also offer flight-training services for S-70i Black Hawk and S-92 helicopters, and PC-7 aircraft where the training emphasis will be on safety and mission readiness.

The Brunei National Disaster Management Centre (NDMC) was established in August 2006 under the auspices of the Disaster Management Order and is led by the Brunei Ministry of Home Affairs. The Brunei NDMC ensures all aspects of disaster management, including mitigation and prevention, preparedness, and response and recovery, all of which are considered though policies, strategies and practices implemented and guided byinternational, regional and national commitments. The NDMC's strategy is to enhance capacity in both response and preparedness with the main objective to build a disaster resilience community. At the regional level, the Brunei NDMC is the focal point of ASEAN's sectorial body called the ASEAN Committee on Disaster Management (ACDM).
