Canadian E-Commerce Adoption Drives Record-Breaking Cyber Monday Sales

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - Dec. 4, 2013) - Canadian retailers experienced record-breaking growth in sales last Monday as shoppers hit virtual stores to cash in on what's become the busiest online shopping day of the year. Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales have typically drawn Canadians south of the border to shop in US stores and on American websites. According to Retailmenot.ca, Canadians do less shopping in the US now that cyber deals have come to Canada and a recent survey by Accenture cited a 14 per cent increase in the number of Canadians who said they would shop north of the border over the holiday weekend this year.

According to comScore Inc., overall Cyber Monday spending this year rose 18 per cent from last year to nearly $2 billion, the highest since comScore began tracking in 2001. Clark believes his company's increase in revenue suggests increasing comfort with making online purchases among Canadian consumers, and reaffirms the fact that they are migrating online to purchase the brands and products they know and trust.
