Suncor Energy recognized for excellence in reporting

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwired - Dec. 5, 2013) - Suncor Energy today announced it has been recognized for excellence in corporate reporting by the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada (CPA Canada) at the Corporate Reporting Awards held in Toronto on December 4.

Suncor was presented with the Award of Excellence in Sustainability Reporting for the 2013 Report on Sustainability and the Award of Excellence in the Oil and Gas Sector for Corporate Reporting.

"We are honoured to be acknowledged with these two awards," said Arlene Strom, vice president, sustainability and communications, Suncor Energy. "We've worked hard to ensure transparent reporting of our environmental, financial and social performance. Our teams are thrilled to receive these prestigious awards."

Suncor's Report on Sustainability is a compilation of environmental, economic, and social performance data and narrative. It aims to share what Suncor is doing, how we are doing it and what we aspire to do in the future. Suncor developed the report in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative (G3.1 guidelines) to the A+ standard and assures the review of selected performance indicators by an independent third party.

This is the fifth year in a row Suncor has been presented the Award of Excellence in Sustainability Reporting and the second time in the same period that the company has received the Award of Excellence in the Oil and Gas Sector for Corporate Reporting.

The Corporate Reporting Awards, presented annually by the CPA Canada (formerly the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants) promote excellence in corporate reporting and recognize the best reporting models in the country.
