The RSC Opens The College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Dec. 9, 2013) - The Royal Society of Canada (RSC) is now accepting nominations for the inaugural cohort of The College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists. The College will advance the RSC's mission to recognize intellectual achievement in Canada by promoting and drawing together individuals whose achievements within 15 years of their terminal degree have been exceptional.

"This is an auspicious day for the future of Canada," said Dr. Graham Bell, President of the Royal Society of Canada. "One of the key ingredients of a culture of knowledge is recognition of the emerging generation of Canada's leadership. In celebrating their accomplishments and promise, the Royal Society contributes to our capacity, as a country, to retain our intellectual capital."

The inaugural cohort of outstanding Canadians will be nominated by the Institutional Membership of the Royal Society of Canada. Institutional Members are institutions devoted to learning and research, and include 50 Canadian universities as well as the National Research Council.

The inaugural cohort of the College will be inducted at the Annual General Meeting of the RSC in Quebec City in November 2014. Members of the College will be named for a period of 7 years.

Full details as well as protocols and procedures for the College are available on the website of the RSC at www.rsc-src.ca/en/college-new-scholars-artists-and-scientists. The period of nominations for the inaugural cohort of the College will close on March 1, 2014.
