Brant County Man Pleads Guilty to Causing Distress to an Animal After Leaving Dog in Hot Car in Summer of 2013


BRANT COUNTY, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Dec. 12, 2013) - TOWNSHIP OF PARIS - On 19 November 2013, James Howley of Brant County, Ontario, pled guilty to causing distress to an animal under the Ontario SPCA Act after leaving a dog in a hot car in July of 2013.

On July 14, 2013, Brant County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended the Sobeys Market on Grand River Street North in The Township of Paris, Brant County, in response to a distressed dog in a hot vehicle.

Several minutes after the OPP arrived, Mr. Howley emerged from the grocery store and confirmed being the owner of the dog.

The OPP Officer received several statements from witnesses and provided them to the Brant County SPCA.

Mr. Howley pled guilty to causing distress to an animal and was ordered to pay a fine of $800.

"Animals should never be left unattended in vehicles, this irresponsible act can result in an animal losing it life," said Darren Grandel, Senior Inspector. "Please keep your pets safe by keeping them at home, not left in a vehicle unattended."
