Seizure of Contraband and Unauthorized Items at Donnacona Institution


DONNACONA, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - Dec. 17, 2013) - On December 10, 2013, at about 1:00 p.m., correctional officers intercepted contraband and unauthorized items at Donnacona Institution, a maximum security federal institution.

After checking, 132 grams of tobacco and 45 grams of marijuana were found. The total institutional value of this seizure is estimated at $8000.

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is heightening measures to prevent contraband from entering its institutions in order to help ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone. CSC also works in partnership with the police to take action against those who attempt to introduce contraband into correctional institutions.

CSC imposed a total smoking ban in all federal correctional facilities through a phased-approach on May 5, 2008.
