Elasticsearch Grows to 6 Million Downloads, Adds Former Box SVP as CMO

Elasticsearch Sees Significant Growth and Momentum Entering 2014

LOS ALTOS, CA and AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS--(Marketwired - Jan 16, 2014) -  Elasticsearch, the company behind the massively popular open-source Elasticsearch ELK stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash and Kibana), today announced continued momentum in new client adoption with an impressive list of new customers including Atlassian, Quizlet and GitHub. To further position the company for rapid adoption, Elasticsearch also introduced Jen Grant as its first CMO. Grant comes to Elasticsearch as the company prepares to unveil new roadmap offerings for Q1.

In 2013, Elasticsearch

  • Grew revenue by 400% in 2013
  • Hit nearly 6MM downloads
  • Was adopted by well-known tech giants: Netflix, Facebook, Wikimedia and many more
  • Achieved more than 450K downloads a month from every industry: financial services, technology, media, customer support, gaming, social, education and public sector.

"We can't imagine a more passionate and innovative evangelist for our brand and products," said Steven Schuurman, Elasticsearch Co-founder and CEO. "As we prepare for even more growth and product development, it's critical to have a tight marketing infrastructure in place. Jen has a history of building strong organizations, and she's already making a significant impact here."

Grant spent the past five years at Box as their Senior VP of Marketing where she helped pave the road for one of the most anticipated IPOs of 2014. Under her tenure, the company grew from 30 to 900+ people, users hit the 20 million mark, revenue doubled each year and Box cemented its leadership position in the enterprise content and collaboration space. Previous to Box, Grant was head of marketing for three product areas over her four years at Google: the Google Apps University-focused team, Google Book Search and Google's consumer-focused apps including Gmail, Calendar, and Docs.

"Elasticsearch is the clear market leader from a technology standpoint -- not only in search, but in extracting value out of all the data that businesses are collecting," said Jen Grant, Elasticsearch's new Chief Marketing Officer. "It's a beautiful thing for someone like me to find a company with such exceptional engineering talent and a product that's loved worldwide. The perfect combination to create the next great technology brand."

Grant will be working out of Elasticsearch's new U.S. headquarters in Silicon Valley and is actively hiring marketing and PR talent. The company's new Los Altos office will also house the growing engineering team focused on Elasticsearch, Logstash and Kibana development. Elasticsearch, Inc. will also continue expanding engineering and other functions in Europe out of their Amsterdam office.
