ATCO Gas Fuels Olympic Excitement at the Ice on Whyte Festival

EDMONTON, ALBERTA--(Marketwired - Jan. 20, 2014) - ATCO Gas and the Ice on Whyte Festival are creating a unique experience to celebrate the upcoming Alberta Winter Games and 2014 Winter Olympics. On February 2, the Ice on Whyte Fire and Ice event will pay tribute to those Games through a mini torch relay and special cauldron ceremony.

"Festivals and celebrations bring people of all generations together and foster strong, healthy communities," said Bill Stephens, President, ATCO Gas. "ATCO Gas is fuelling the spirit of creativity and winter fun through its support of Ice on Whyte, one of Canada's premier winter festivals. We're also pleased to engage our long-term partner, the Alberta Games, and promote the 2014 Alberta Winter Games in Banff-Canmore, February 6-9, which we are also sponsoring."

"This year, Ice on Whyte is focusing on winter sport as a theme. With the Alberta Winter Games and the Sochi Olympics starting soon after Ice on Whyte, sport will be on everyone's mind," said Wanda Bornn, Festival Producer, Ice on Whyte Festival Society. "We are thrilled to team up with ATCO Gas and the Alberta Games to make this a momentous year with the torch relay and lighting of the cauldron at the annual Fire and Ice event."

"ATCO Gas has partnered with the Alberta Games since 1988. A highlight of ATCO's involvement has been the ATCO Gas Torch Relay and the ATCO Gas Cauldron opening each Games event," said John Short, Chairperson, Alberta Sport Connection Volunteer Board of Directors. "Thanks to our partner, ATCO Gas, we are pleased to ignite the spirit of the 2014 Alberta Games with the lighting of their cauldron and feature several Edmonton athletes in this special torch relay for the 2014 Ice on Whyte festival."
