Sisters on the Fly Members Raise Nearly $60,000 for Casting For Recovery

PHOENIX, AZ--(Marketwired - Jan 21, 2014) - Sisters on the Fly (SOTF), an outdoors adventure club for women, is pleased to announce that in 2013 its members raised nearly $60,000 for Casting For Recovery (CFR). As a nonprofit organization, CFR relies on charitable giving to support its mission of enhancing the quality of life of women with breast cancer by providing retreats designed to promote and support mental and physical healing at no charge to recipients.

Since its inception in 1999, SOTF has made philanthropy an ongoing commitment and pledges $30,000 annually to CFR. The two organizations have a natural connection, with each focused on the healing benefits of nature, sisterhood and, of course, fly fishing. Funds are raised through various activities conducted both organization-wide and by individual SOTF member groups across the country. SOTF's passion for the cause has always ensured that the annual pledge is met, but 2013 was a banner year, truly demonstrating the generosity of its members.

A few of the 2013 giving highlights include: $13,487 raised during a fly fishing competition held in Montana; $25,772 raised with the raffle of a 1957 vintage trailer (the Sisters' favorite mode of transportation when traveling); $4,000 raised by SOTF sponsored events in New Jersey and Texas; and $3,000 raised by events coordinated by Sisters in Indiana and Arizona.

"We are so thrilled with the momentum we built in 2013," said Maurrie Sussman, Sister #1 and co-founder of Sisters on the Fly, "But we are always thinking bigger. In 2014, we are working to establish a 501(c)3 foundation that will allow us to expand our contributions to include scholarship opportunities for young women, children, and other populations in need."
