CAPP to Participate at Oil Sands, Aboriginal Perspectives Conference

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwired - Jan. 21, 2014) - Dave Collyer, president of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers, and Janet Annesley, CAPP vice-president, will participate at the Fort McKay First Nation and Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business Energy and the Oil Sands, Aboriginal Perspectives conference beginning tomorrow in Fort McMurray, Alberta.

The conference, January 22-24, will address key issues surrounding First Nations, aboriginal business, economics, best practices and the environment in Alberta. The complete conference agenda is here: www.fortmckay.com or www.ccab.com.

"Canada's oil sands producers rely on mutually beneficial relationships with aboriginal peoples and we welcome the opportunity to build on past successes together through events that allow all participants to discuss various issues and perspectives," said Collyer.

On January 23, Collyer will lead the Working with Aboriginal Business and First Nations panel, featuring representatives from Syncrude Canada, Suncor Energy, Shell Canada and the Fort McKay First Nation. On January 24, Annesley is a panelist on the Networking in the Oil Industry and on the National Stage panel, along with executives from Keyano College, the Alberta Chamber of Resources and the Northeastern Alberta Aboriginal Business Association.

The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo is located in the northeast corner of Alberta, home to many oil sands operations and several aboriginal communities including Anzac, Conklin, Fort Chipewyan, Fort McKay and Janvier - all of which are home to multiple First Nation and Métis people.

"Canada's oil sands producers are pleased to be part of this conference and we look forward to engaging in a constructive dialogue," said Collyer.

Over the past 14 years, aboriginal companies in the region have earned more than $8 billion in revenue under contracts with oil sands companies.
