Pomerleau Engages Aconex for PPP Construction Project

Requires Close Coordination of Workflows Between Different Organizations

SOREL-TRACY, QC--(Marketwired - Jan 21, 2014) - Aconex, provider of the world's most widely used construction project management software, has been engaged by Pomerleau for the construction of the Sorel-Tracy Detention Centre. This is a public-private partnership (PPP) infrastructure project to build a medium-security prison located approximately 75 kilometers from Montréal. Aconex provides Pomerleau and its project team with an independent third-party system for document control and other critical project information management functions, offering equal access to all participants.

Pomerleau, one of the largest general contractors in Canada, previously used the Aconex platform to manage project information and processes for the Centre de Recherche at the Centre Hospitalier de l'Université de Montréal (CRCHUM), a PPP project directed by Consortium Pomerleau-Verreault. Pomerleau also deployed Aconex Field, a mobile field inspection and issues management solution, for the centennial renovation of the landmark Ritz-Carlton Montréal.

"Like other PPP infrastructure projects, the Sorel-Tracy Detention Centre has a large team, requiring close coordination of workflows, documents and communications between different organizations," said Eric Lessard, IT director at Pomerleau. "Compliance requirements are strict, the risk profile is high, and many stakeholders need to be kept up to date. As we've learned on prior projects, Aconex increases speed, quality and transparency across the project team. We're able to reduce response times for RFIs and design requests from weeks or months to days, resulting in efficiency and productivity improvements of 85% or more. We're also able to reduce errors in design and construction, saving time and costs for rework and financial penalties."

Lessard added that Pomerleau is initially using the Aconex platform to manage the bidding and tendering process for the engagement of consultants and subcontractors on the Sorel-Tracy project. He indicated that the platform's accessibility, structured processes and audit trail of all project activities will help Pomerleau mitigate risk and meet compliance criteria proactively.

"Pomerleau is a highly valued client, and we're pleased with the opportunity to continue supporting their projects," said Frank Kopas, general manager of the Americas at Aconex. "The Sorel-Tracy Detention Centre is an example of a PPP infrastructure project with especially rigorous document control and information management requirements. With Aconex, Pomerleau and its team can proceed with confidence that they'll control the project from beginning to end and deliver a high-quality result to their client."
