Two Becancour Projects Receive Financial Support from Government of Canada


BÉCANCOUR, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - Feb. 18, 2014) - Canada Economic Development

The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, today announced that two Bécancour firms have been granted financial assistance for the acquisition of manufacturing equipment.

This support, which totals $1,025,000, has been awarded in the form of two repayable financial contributions through Canada Economic Development's Quebec Economic Development Program.

Repayable contribution of $625,000 on a total investment of $3,040,000.

This project will allow the company to launch its commercial operations. The financial assistance will serve for the acquisition and installation of equipment to capitalize on new processes and exclusive know-how in industrial waste reclamation. Oriens Technologies Inc. is a pre-startup that will offer environmental services for the recovery of fluoride waste generated mainly by aluminium smelters.
Fromagerie L'Ancêtre Inc. Repayable contribution of $400,000 on a total investment of $2,811,000.

This project will enable the enterprise to raise productivity and optimize its manufacturing capabilities. The financial assistance will serve for the purchase and installation of equipment as well as for the expansion of the company's milk reception unit. Founded in 1992, Fromagerie L'Ancêtre Inc. specializes in the production of organic dairy products, including unpasteurized cheeses with varying degrees of maturation, butter and freshly-made cheddar, sold under the L'Ancêtre brand name and several other private brands. The company distributes nationally, with nearly 75% of its sales made on domestic markets outside Quebec.
