AltaLink Welcomes Back Scott Thon as President and CEO

Today AltaLink announced that Scott Thon will return as the company's President and Chief Executive Officer, effective March 1, 2014. Mr. Thon is returning from a secondment at SNC-Lavalin, where he assumed the role of Executive Vice President, Global Power.

Backgrounder

Mr. Thon has held a variety of senior positions in Alberta's electricity industry over the last 28 years, from operations and engineering to market design and financial management. He was most recently President and Chief Executive Officer at AltaLink prior to accepting a temporary secondment to act as Executive Vice-President, Global Power for SNC-Lavalin.

Mr. Thon is an active member of the Canadian Electricity Association, serving on both its Board of Directors and Management Board. Mr. Thon also serves on the Board of Candu Energy, is a Director on the Board of Alberta Blue Cross and a member of the Canadian Athletic Foundation Board of Trustees.

In 2013, Bow Valley College awarded Mr. Thon their Distinguished Citizen Award honoring his commitment to making the College's vision of world-class education opportunities for adult learners a reality and for volunteering his time, expertise and experience to championing this worthy cause. In 2011, Mr. Thon was recognized for his business and community leadership with the Calgary Chamber of Commerce's Sherrold Moore Award. In 2005, he was presented with the Alberta Centennial Medal in recognition of outstanding service to the people and province of Alberta.

Mr. Thon is a registered Professional Engineer with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Saskatchewan. He is also a graduate of the Executive Program from the University of Western Ontario's Richard Ivey School of Business.
