A First in North America: A Tesla Model S Taxicab on the Streets of Quebec City Thanks to 4Degrees

QUEBEC CITY, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - March 3, 2014) - 4Degrees, the firm behind the largest eco-responsible Internet colocation centre in Quebec City, has sponsored the very first all-electric Tesla brand taxicab in North America, according to Tesla Motors.

"We are very proud to be able to help offer the people of Quebec City this green transportation system, a first in North America. For 4Degrees, this partnership makes perfect sense because energy efficiency is central to our activities. We are also strong advocates of the electric transport network and, among other things, we plan to provide clients and employees with free charging stations for electric cars at our future data centre," points out businessman Martin Bouchard, the initiator of 4Degrees, founder of Copernic and cofounder of Coveo.

The vehicle, a Tesla Model S bearing the 4Degrees colours, will take to the streets of Quebec City by 8 March. The capacities of the taxicab will be tested intensively by Mr. Christian Roy, a taxi driver with several years of experience who plans to travel more than 320,000 km (200,000 mi) in 5 years behind the wheel of the electric car. Mr. Roy believes the car will allow him to save close to $8,000 in fuel costs every year. He also intends to write progress reports in order to share his experience with other cab drivers who may be interested in joining the adventure.

ABOUT 4DEGREES

4Degrees is the company responsible for the largest Internet colocation centre ever built in Quebec City. The large-scale project was designed to provide businesses and public institutions with a sophisticated and high availability (Tier III) colocation infrastructure in the heart of the provincial capital. With an ideal combination of clean hydroelectric power and very low temperatures, this region of eastern Canada is one of the best places in the world to establish a data centre.

It should be noted that 4Degrees takes its name from the average annual temperature in Quebec City, 4.6° C (40° F). By using colder outdoor air, 4Degrees makes it easier to maintain the computer equipment at an optimum temperature while at the same time generating substantial energy savings.
