Death of an inmate at Regional Psychiatric Centre


SASKATOON, SASKATCHEWAN--(Marketwired - March 7, 2014) - Correctional Service Canada

On March 6, 2014, John Schimmens, an inmate at the Regional Psychiatric Centre died at the institutional hospital in Saskatoon.

At the time of his death, Mr. Schimmens, 65 years old, had been serving an indeterminate sentence for Second Degree Murder, Perjury and Obstruction of a Public/Peace Officer since October 16, 1990.

The inmate's next of kin have been notified of his death.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the police and the coroner have been notified, and the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances of the incident.
