Death of an Inmate at the Regional Psychiatric Centre

On March 9, 2014 Roy Hartzel an inmate at the Regional Psychiatric Centre was found unresponsive in his cell. He was pronounced dead at 1:15 a.m.

At the time of his death, Mr. Hartzel, 75 years old, had been serving an indeterminate sentence for Non-Capital Murder, Escape Lawful Custody, Unlawfully At Large, Theft Under and Mischief since June 27, 1963.

The inmate's next of kin have been notified of his death.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the police and the coroner have been notified, and the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances of the incident.
