Harry & David Donates 875 Trees to State Parks in Ohio

Ten Parks Welcome New Dwarf Pine Trees

MEDFORD, OR--(Marketwired - Mar 20, 2014) - Harry & David, America's trusted expert in handcrafted gourmet gifts, announced today that it is continuing its award-winning sustainability efforts by donating 875 dwarf pine trees to ten Ohio State Parks. Because farming and stewardship of the land is the heart of Harry & David's business, the brand makes it a priority to find a suitable home for unused goods and produce, working closely with state and local agencies to repurpose its products.

The parks selected for donations range in location all over the state of Ohio, and include Malabar Farm State Park, Findley State Park, Dillon State Park, Blue Rock State Park, Muskingum River Parkway State Park, Buckeye Lake State Park, Hebron State Fish Hatchery, Mohican State Park, Beaver Creek State Park and Cowan Lake State Park.

"Harry & David's thoughtful donation goes a long way in our efforts to improve our parks and also grow them in an eco-friendly way," said Peggy Joseph, Account Clerk of Dillon State Park, which received a total of 50 dwarf pines. "We are grateful to have the opportunity to work with a green company like Harry & David that cares for the environment and shares our same core values for giving back."

Harry & David is dedicated to minimizing its carbon footprint and making a contribution towards a sustainable environment. Since beginning its recycling program in 1989, the environmentally friendly company has recycled more than 31,000 tons of materials and through its marketing efforts has eliminated more than 37 million catalogues, resulting in a paper reduction of 35%.

"Conservation and recycling are top priorities for Harry & David, and the impact that sustainable business practices can have on the planet cannot be minimized," said Craig Johnson, CEO of Harry & David. "From sustainable farming, to restoring, to donations like this for the Ohio State Parks, Harry & David demonstrates a commitment to building a better environment through all aspects of our business."

The dwarf pines that were donated are slow-growing evergreen that thrive in full sunlight and are extremely effective as a foundation plant. They are best used in landscaping where manageability is a must.
