SUNNYVALE, Calif., March 20, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Cogswell College entrepreneurship program faculty John Duhring and CJ Cornell will be featured speakers at Open 2014, sponsored by the National Collegiate Inventors and Innovators Alliance (NCIIA). Open 2014 is an intensive two-day conference for practitioners of technology entrepreneurship in higher education. The conference explores policy, programs, funding and insights into what universities are doing today to engage constituents in using invention and entrepreneurship to benefit society.
On Friday, March 21 at 11:00 am, Duhring, educational technology specialist at Cogswell College, will present research and insights on Hackathons and Meetups, and on how they proliferated as useful methods for kick-starting technology projects in the academic classroom.
Cornell, director of venture development and visiting professor of entrepreneurship at Cogswell College, will present at two sessions. His first presentation, "The Metamorphosis of Business Plan Competitions" is Saturday, March 22 at 9:30 am, his second presentation, Saturday March 22 at 2:00 pm, will focus on Crowdfunding as a new way of jumpstarting entrepreneurship education.

John Duhring has been a founding team member at nine startups, including Supermac Software, WAIS Inc and Bitmenu. He has also applied technology to learning at Prentice-Hall, Apple, Dow Jones and AOL and created the New Media Group for Stanford's Professional Publishing Courses. As education technology specialist at Cogswell College, he is passionate about using technology to extend capacity and increase performance. He received his BS in marketing from UC Berkeley. John is a fifth-generation Silicon Valley entrepreneur whose family is among one of the founding families of Sonoma, Calif.
Christopher-John "CJ" Cornell is director of venture development and visiting professor of entrepreneurship at Cogswell College. Recently CJ Cornell was professor of digital media & entrepreneurship at Arizona State University and the recipient of the 2010 President's Award for Innovation. As a serial entrepreneur, CJ Cornell was founder or senior management of a dozen successful startup ventures that attracted over $250 million in private funding and exceeded $3 billion in revenues. He holds degrees in engineering and management and a Ph.D. in marketing and strategy, and he sits on the boards of five tech companies and many public entrepreneurship development agencies.
