Tubby's Sub Shops Picks Ideal Winter to Introduce Delivery Services

Company Reports Business Up 20 Percent Over Previous Year

ROSEVILLE, MI--(Marketwired - Mar 24, 2014) - According to Marci Karp, director of marketing for Tubby's Sub Shops, the company had no idea that Michigan would experience such a frigid, record-setting winter when they decided to introduce "Tubby's To You!" delivery services late last year.

While this year's ongoing arctic blasts negatively impacted many local businesses, Tubby's Sub Shops reported an upswing in business.

"If we'd had a crystal ball or consulted a Farmer's Almanac, we couldn't have picked a better year to introduce and promote delivery services," said Karp, who shared that franchise-wide sales are up nearly 20 percent during the first quarter 2014, in large part to residential and business delivery requests. "When it's so cold outside, people don't want to leave their home or place of work."

Barb Gower, a 30-year veteran of Tubby's Sub Shops and store manager in Madison Heights, agreed that offering delivery services has helped her store tremendously.

"We keep everything well stocked, so we can be prepared for any kind of weather," said Gower. "However, when we reach the arctic temperatures, our phone and online orders for delivery increase -- they don't want to come out, so we bring Tubby's to them."

Both residential and business deliveries are made by Tubby's in-store drivers.

"My goal is to make sure our customers receive delivery of quality food that's hot, fresh and on time," said Shaun Marogi, a 21-year old entrepreneur and owner of three Tubby's Sub Shops, including the most recent store he opened in Berkley. "Customers are usually understanding if their delivery is delayed a little, but they won't become repeat customers if their order is cold and not fresh."

With spring approaching and March Madness basketball underway, Karp expects the sales increase for in-store business and deliveries to continue. She added, "Our Steak N' Cheese and Tubby's Famous subs are still the big favorites across the board, though we have lots of options including our party subs and platters that can feed a big group."
