Make-A-Wish® Canada Celebrates World Wish Day® from Coast to Coast

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - April 22, 2014) - Mark your calendars! April 29 is World Wish Day®-a global day of recognition for Make-A-Wish® that celebrates all of the magical wishes granted to courageous children with life-threatening medical conditions around the world.

"World Wish Day® marks the anniversary of the first wish that inspired the creation of Make-A-Wish more than 30 years ago," said Jennifer Ritter, CEO, Make-A-Wish® Canada. "We have granted almost 6,000 wishes to date in Canada, impacting thousands of children, families, volunteers and supporters, thanks to our generous contributors who make our wish-granting mission possible."

Events will take place across the country throughout the month of April, including special wish reveals, festivities at local children's hospitals and celebratory events that bring together wish kids, volunteers and supporters. In Toronto, the Central Ontario chapter will celebrate its 1,000th wish in conjunction with World Wish Day®, thanks to national supporter, Flight Centre Canada. In recognition of its 10th anniversary supporting Make-A-Wish Canada, Flight Centre Canada will grant the magical wish of 16-year-old Mikaela, who suffers from Budd-Chiari Syndrome, to visit London, England. Mikaela will leave for her exciting trip on April 30, following the local chapter's celebration at Casa Loma in Toronto.

Make-A-Wish Canada's corporate partners, LS travel retail North America and Brooks Brothers, have also coordinated special World Wish Day® promotions this month.

In further recognition of World Wish Day®, Canadian landmarks such as Niagara Falls, the CN Tower, BC Place, Vancouver's Science World and local city halls will light up in blue and white. The City of Toronto will also proclaim April 29 World Wish Day®.
