Columbus Zoo's Gregg Oosterbaan Recognized in Inaugural List of Most Innovative Midmarket CIOs

Information Builders Customer Acknowledged for Introducing BI and Analytics Insight to the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - May 5, 2014) -  Information Builders, a leader in business intelligence (BI) and analytics, information integrity and integration solutions, today announced that Gregg Oosterbaan, vice president of technology services at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, has been named to the inaugural Top 20 Most Innovative Midmarket CIOs list. The new list shines a spotlight on elite Midmarket IT leaders who are using technology to enhance business processes and drive their organizations forward.

Oosterbaan was honored for his work in implementing an enterprise BI platform that allowed the Columbus Zoo to easily manage analytics, reporting, data integration, and data management across the organization. Following a period of significant growth, the Columbus Zoo was experiencing a strain on existing IT staff and resources, at which point Oosterbaan and his team recognized the need for tools capable of capitalizing on the zoo's vast data assets, including everything from point-of-sale and membership to ticketing data and donations. The organization had numerous independent information systems, and it lacked a unified view across all entities, which made it difficult to make informed decisions. Additionally, the zoo's executives wanted to understand performance metrics across the organization on a daily basis, which necessitates more than just static reports.

To address this, Oosterbaan began investigating BI platforms that could facilitate detailed reporting and delivery of analytical insights to all departments. The team implemented Information Builders' WebFOCUS platform, which allowed the zoo to develop BI portals, reports, and dashboards to improve reporting and decision-making across the organization. Since implementation, the zoo's leadership has benefited from improved visibility into business processes as well as enhanced agility in decision-making -- key decisions can now be made on a daily basis, versus having to wait for quarterly reports.

"Information Builders is thrilled to see Mr. Oosterbaan recognized on the list of the Most Innovative Midmarket CIOs," said Gerald Cohen, president and CEO of Information Builders. "This honor underscores the value that insights from trusted data can bring to all users and departments in an organization, to support real-time, fact-based decision-making. Information Builders is dedicated to helping our customers transform their data into business value, and their organizations into leaders, which the Columbus Zoo exemplifies."

"We are thrilled to promote the dynamic executives who are leading today's midmarket companies to great success by leveraging the power of IT to make a positive impact and transform the way their organization does business," said Lisa MacKenzie, senior vice president, XChange Events. "The Midmarket is integral to today's economy, and its leaders deserve recognition for their dedication to innovation and constant pursuit of excellence. We congratulate these forward-thinking executives and wish each of them continued success."

The Top 20 Innovative Midmarket CIOs were recognized April 29 during the XCellence Awards at the Midsize Enterprise Summit East in Orlando, the largest conference for midmarket CIOs. The 20 winners were selected by the XChange editorial team and were chosen for success in spearheading IT projects that helped a business grow, gain a competitive edge, and achieve breakthrough results.
