UL Workplace Health and Safety Appoints Medical Advisory Board

Multi-Disciplinary Healthcare Leaders to Provide Strategic Direction, Expertise and Clinical Insights to Organization

FRANKLIN, TN--(Marketwired - May 6, 2014) - UL Workplace Health and Safety today announced it has named four leading healthcare experts to its newly established Medical Advisory Board. Three physicians, Drs. Steven Crawford, Richard Lewis, and Peter Vasquez, and Juanita Kantner, a certified occupational health nurse-specialist, will serve as consultants for the company to help identify trends, regulations and clinical issues impacting the delivery of safety, occupational, and environmental medicine and management services in the workplace.

The Medical Advisory Board will advise UL Workplace Health and Safety on clinical and operational aspects of the company's software, mobile apps, and learning content. Additionally, the board will collaborate with in-house experts on projects such as developing clinical and financial performance metrics, outcome analysis, benchmarking and return-on-investment analyses, while also contributing to the company's thought leadership content by writing articles and speaking on topics related to their specific areas of expertise.

UL Workplace Health and Safety's Medical Advisory Board is comprised of the following professionals:

Steven Crawford, M.D., C.I.M.E., is corporate medical director at Meridian Occupational Health, a multi-site hospital-affiliated occupational medicine practice in central New Jersey. He has been practicing Occupational Medicine for 25 years. He also practices and serves as a clinical instructor in sports medicine at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, N.J. He is a certified independent medical examiner, certified as a medical examiner for the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners (NRCME) for the Department of Transportation (DOT) and a certified medical review officer (MRO). In addition, he has a background in emergency medicine and experience in addiction medicine. Among other professional activities, Dr. Crawford is president of the board of the National Association of Occupational Health Professionals.

Juanita Kantner, R.N., M.S., C.O.H.N.-S./CM, is a principal healthcare consultant based in Pennsylvania with more than 20 years of experience managing health, safety and workers' compensation programs in a wide variety of industries. Her expertise includes the establishment and operation of onsite health centers that offer services in support of both individual and population health management. She is currently enrolled at Bloomsburg University in the nurse practitioner/doctorate program. Kantner also is a certified Department of Transportation drug and breath-alcohol technician and is certified to perform Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation (CAOHC) hearing tests.

Richard Lewis, M.D., M.P.H., is medical director at Battelle Memorial Institute in Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Lewis has practiced occupational medicine for more than 25 years, providing clinical services and medical expertise to companies, academic institutions and research organizations. His expertise includes the development of surveillance programs for workers exposed to hazardous conditions. He also is interested in promoting workforce well-being through sustainable behavior change and lifestyle modifications. His certifications include the American Board of Preventive Medicine in occupational medicine, American Board of Internal Medicine, National Board of Medical Examiners, Medical Review Officer, Medical Emergency Response Team Leader and Competent Medical Authority.

Peter Vasquez, M.D., is national medical director for Take Care Health System's Employer Solutions Group. He formerly was a Regional Medical Director for Walgreens, where he oversaw on-site medical services in the Western U.S. Additionally, Dr. Vasquez practiced family medicine and occupational medicine in Arizona, Pennsylvania and New Jersey for 27 years. His areas of interest include disability management and stay-at-work/return-to-work programs. Dr. Vasquez is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and American Board of Preventive Medicine with a specialty in occupational medicine. He is a certified medical review officer. His professional activities include serving as president-elect of the Western Occupational and Environmental Medicine Association and member of the OEM certification exam writing committee of the American Board of Preventive Medicine.
