Government of Canada Hails Inauguration of Wakefield Community Centre's New Sportspad

LA PÊCHE, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - May 10, 2014) - Canada Economic Development

The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, welcomes the grand opening of the new outdoor community infrastructure at the Wakefield Community Centre in La Pêche. With the arrival of milder temperatures, the community will now be able to take full advantage of these new recreational facilities.

Assistance for the project was granted in the form of a $180,651 non-repayable financial contribution through Canada Economic Development's Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund.

Quick facts

• This investment enabled the Wakefield Community Centre to build a concrete sportspad that includes a skating rink with permanent boards and a skateboarding park. These facilities will also serve for other activities such as basketball, inline skating and ball hockey.
  
  
• The project will produce numerous benefits for the community by making it possible to organize sporting events, set up training programs and draw outside visitors, thereby generating local economic spinoffs.
  
  
• Moreover, members of the community will now be able to enjoy access to a safe, durable and versatile infrastructure.
