Promoting Classical Music in the Eastern Townships: Government of Canada Supports the Orford Festival

SHERBROOKE, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - May 12, 2014) - Department of Canadian Heritage

The Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, Shelly Glover, today announced an investment of $65,000 for the 63rd Orford Festival. This funding, provided by the Government of Canada under the Canada Arts Presentation Fund, will help advance and increase appreciation of classical music in the Eastern Townships and kindle public interest in this art form.

Quick Facts

  • The Orford Festival, organized by the Orford Arts Centre, welcomes close to 12,000 visitors each year.
  • This year's festival will take place from June 28 to August 17.
  • Activities take place in the Orford Arts Centre, the Saint-Benoît-du-Lac Abbey, and several Eastern Township municipalities.
  • The Orford Festival puts on some 60 concerts and also offers visual arts exhibits, outreach activities such as conferences for the general public, and workshops for up-and-coming artists.
