Investment to Support Activities in French for Seniors in Saskatchewan

MP Maurice Vellacott announces funding to the Federation des aines fransaskois

SASKATOON, SASKATCHEWAN--(Marketwired - May 13, 2014) - Department of Canadian Heritage

The Government of Canada is providing $49,500 in funding to the Fédération des aînés fransaskois (FAF) for its 2014-2015 programming, which will make it possible to offer services, workshops, and projects to approximately 400 seniors.

Maurice Vellacott, Member of Parliament (Saskatoon-Wanuskewin), made this announcement today on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages Shelly Glover. The Government of Canada is providing this financial support under the Community Life component of the Development of Official-Language Communities Program.

  • The Fédération des aînés fransaskois supports the development and growth of Francophones and Francophiles aged 50 and over in Saskatchewan. It comprises a number of seniors' clubs, as well as individual members from rural and urban areas in the Prince Albert, Debden, Saskatoon, Ponteix, St. Denis, Regina, and Zenon Park regions.
  • The FAF promotes the well-being of seniors; organizes socio-cultural activities in French-such as the seniors/youth book club in a school setting-and activities aimed at accessing the seniors' collective memory. It also offers sessions on topics such as healthy eating, physical activity, mental health, and awareness of fraud, violence, and abuse.
  • The FAF works with other organizations that offer services to seniors, such as the Réseau santé en français de la Saskatchewan.
