The new AF-S NIKKOR 400mm f/2.8E FL ED VR lens is almost 2 lb lighter than its predecessor, and has a fluorine-coated front meniscus glass element to protect the lens's optics. The lens has pro-grade dust and moisture sealing for added protection when shooting in tough conditions. Vibration Reduction helps minimize the appearance of camera shake, while an electromagnetic diaphragm works to ensure consistent exposures while shooting at higher frame rates. The Silent Wave Motor provides quick, quiet, and precise autofocusing, with manual override possible by spinning the lens barrel. Two fluorite elements reduce the overall weight and enhance the optical performance, while two extra-low dispersion glass elements almost fully reduce chromatic aberrations, even at f/2.8.
The Nikon AF-S Teleconverter TC-14E III 1.4x lens provides 40% more reach for your lens with just a one-stop loss of exposure, turning a 70-200mm f/2.8 into a 98-280mm f/4, and a 400mm f/2.8 into a 560mm f/4. Autofocus, metering, and VR image stabilization all remain functional while using the teleconverter. The front and rear surfaces are fluorine-coated to protect the glass, while the lens barrel provides dust and water-droplet resistance.
