Ontario SPCA Announces a Turning Point for Addressing Animal Cruelty in Ontario

NEWMARKET, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - May 15, 2014) - Today marks a turning point for addressing animal cruelty in Ontario. In April of this year the Ontario SPCA introduced a centralized call center for reporting animal cruelty, 310-SPCA (7722). This number works across all of Ontario and communities are encouraged to utilize this number to report animal cruelty. The Ontario SPCA is very excited to announce that Operation V.A.L.U.E - Vulnerable Animals Left Unattended Everyday, is now entering its third year, and has expanded to becoming a provincial crime prevention initiative.

Animal Welfare requires community support. We thank all of our community partners; the Ontario Association Chiefs of Police, Ontario Provincial Police, Toronto Police Service, York Regional Police, Peel Crime Stoppers, Ontario Veterinary Medical Association and the Ontario Association of Veterinary Technicians for their help in sharing the message.

The Ontario SPCA and its provincial partners are working together to address animal cruelty concerns across Ontario. Operation V.A.L.U.E is a crime prevention initiative designed to promote the laws behind protecting animals in the great province of Ontario; animals left unattended in vehicles, suitable and appropriate sheltering, abandonment, dogs loose in the back of pick-ups and highway traffic offences.

On May 20, 2014, the Ontario SPCA will be launching its NO HOT PETS campaign; this campaign is designed to provide pet safety tips. We encourage you to look out for this information, next week.

Operation V.A.L.U.E representatives will be attending events throughout Ontario in conjunction with police services and our Communities.
