SFATA Concerns on Senate HELP Committee Hearing on Tobacco Regulation

WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwired - May 16, 2014) - On behalf of the e-cigarette and vaporizing products industry, the Smoke-Free Alternatives Trade Association (SFATA):

"We are disappointed that much of the discussion surrounding personal vapor products at this week's important hearing shows that the Agency still misunderstands this new category of technology products and confuses vapor products with tobacco products. We are further disappointed that the Agency continues to ignore well documented scientific evidence that distinguishes the differences between vapor products, which are made of metal, acrylic and wiring, with tobacco products," said Cynthia Cabrera, Executive Director of SFATA. "The Agency's association of adult vaping products with traditional combustible tobacco is not borne out by facts or research. The proposed regulation is an example of the Agency trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. Given the vast difference in these products, the Tobacco Control Act, which was never intended to govern these technology products, is an entirely inappropriate regulatory structure to oversee vaping products. We look forward to working with Congress to create an appropriate regulatory framework that protects minors, assures public safety and is based on sound science, not hasty speculation."
