Government of Canada provides support for the Musee mineralogique et minier de Thetford Mines

THETFORD MINES, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - May 16, 2014) - Department of Canadian Heritage

The Honourable Christian Paradis, Minister of International Development, Minister for La Francophonie and Member of Parliament (Mégantic-L'Érable), today announced funding of $15,000 to allow the Musée minéralogique et minier de Thetford Mines to present the exhibition Fantastic Sea Monsters. Minister Paradis made this announcement on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages Shelly Glover.

The Government of Canada is providing this support through the Exhibition Circulation Fund of the Museums Assistance Program. The travelling exhibition, which runs from April 1 to October 10, 2014, gives visitors to the museum a chance to discover the aquatic species that inhabit Canada's rivers and oceans and the myths and legends surrounding them.

Quick Facts

  • The exhibition Fantastic Sea Monsters, created in 2010, was produced by the Musée du Fjord in partnership with The Rooms (Newfoundland and Labrador), the Maritime Museum of British Columbia, and Océanopolis (France). The exhibition has been on tour since January 2011.
  • The Musée minéralogique et minier de Thetford Mines offers guided tours adapted to the needs of different groups, as well as educational activities designed to meet the learning outcomes of science programs in elementary and secondary schools in Chaudière-Appalaches and neighbouring regions.

Quotes

"I would like to congratulate the Musée minéralogique et minier de Thetford Mines on making informative and enriching exhibitions available to local residents and visitors to the Chaudière-Appalaches region."

-The Honourable Christian Paradis, Minister of International Development, Minister for La Francophonie and Member of Parliament (Mégantic-L'Érable)

"The Exhibition Circulation Fund of Canadian Heritage's Museums Assistance Program is an invaluable resource for regional museums and their communities. Without this support, we would not be able to diversify our programming, nor could we bring to our community exhibitions on the scale of the Musée du Fjord's Fantastic Sea Monsters."
