Eguana Technologies Completes Successful Field Trials with Leading U.S. Developer of Next Generation Battery Technology

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwired - May 20, 2014) - Eguana Technologies (TSX VENTURE:EGT), ("Eguana" or the "Company") a leading manufacturer of high performance power conversion and control systems for "smart-grid" and "micro-grid" energy storage systems, today announced that a leading US developer next of generation battery technology has successfully completed field trials of Eguana's Bi-Direx inverter module.

The trials were intended to demonstrate performance characteristics of the Bi-Direx module for a remote energy storage system that would be used with telecom towers. Other applications targeted for the integrated module include stand alone and battery backup power, village power, diesel optimization and military power on demand applications.

No details on volumes or the identity of the customer are being released at this time to maintain customer confidentiality and for competitive reasons.

"We are very pleased with the outcomes of these trials, which demonstrate the flexibility of the Bi-Direx design in connecting the next generation of batteries to the power grid in the lower power ratings needed for distributed non-utility storage systems," commented Michael Carten CEO of Eguana.

Next generation battery technologies are typically characterized by very high current to voltage ratios in order to bring down the basic cost per kilowatt hour of the battery. Unlike conventional high voltage inverters, which have limited flexibility and poor efficiencies in a high current environment, Eguana designed Bi-Direx from the ground up to work with a wide range of high current configurations while achieving best in class conversion efficiencies.

Eguana's business model is to lever the design flexibility and inherent cost advantages of the Bi-Direx platform by delivering an integrated power electronics solution that can be easily adapted by battery manufacturers or system designers to optimize performance in a wide range of applications
