Lubrizol to Showcase Two Innovative New Products
at the MD&M East Conference

New flame-retardant and pharmaceutical-grade thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPU)
provide product development opportunities for medical device manufacturers

CLEVELAND, May 27 2014 - The Lubrizol Corporation's LifeScience Polymers business announces today that it will participate in the MD&M East Conference at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City, June 10-12, 2014. The company's booth (#1821) will highlight two product introductions for 2014: a line of Tecothane(TM) flame-retardant thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPU) and pharmaceutical-grade Pathway(TM) excipients. Lubrizol will showcase these products alongside its extensive offering of medical grade polymers.

"At our core, the LifeScience Polymers business is developing new and innovative solutions for medical device manufacturers that meet the stringent requirements of the healthcare industry and also deliver safe and effective patient care. Our technologies deliver on these promises," says Deb Langer, general manager of LifeScience Polymers. "Both solutions are unlike anything else in the market and are ahead of their time in terms of application possibilities for device manufacturers."

The medical-grade Tecothane flame-retardant TPU allows for a new level of safety in today's electronically driven medical environment. The changing needs of the healthcare industry, including inherent safety of the machines being used, are critical design factors. One such safety need focuses on products that reduce the risk of fire. Lubrizol is offering a solution that delivers peace-of-mind as well as the inherent benefits of TPU, like chemical-resistance and durability," say Ralf Hüther, LifeScience Polymers global market manager.

Lubrizol is introducing a new excipient into the pharmaceutical and medical device market.  New Pathway TPU excipients are manufactured in compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) for use in non-biodegradable drug implants such as vaginal rings and subcutaneous drug delivery systems. They are also used in devices where manufacturers have a desire for a higher quality standard due to the increasingly stringent regulatory environment. "This exciting new development for controlled release drug delivery is strengthened by Lubrizol's proven expertise in TPU formulation, GMP manufacturing and regulatory agility from decades of work in the pharmaceutical excipient market," notes Joey Glassco, LifeScience Polymers global market manager.

Lubrizol's LifeScience Polymers team is focused on linking science to life by developing innovative polymer solutions and providing world-class support services to the healthcare industry.
